The basics
What is BeaHive Collective?
BeaHive is a shared sewing and design studio and fabric shop in San Diego. We give designers, makers, students and hobbyists access to industrial equipment and workspace they might not have at home — plus classes, deadstock fabric, and a community that helps each other grow.
Where are you?
Inside the Woo Studios building at 2212 Main St, San Diego, CA 92113.
What are your hours?
Monday–Friday 8am–6pm, Saturday–Sunday 9am–4pm. Professional members also get extended-hours access. Holiday closures will be posted on our Instagram.
Do I have to be a member?
No. You can buy a $45 Day Pass or a 5-day or 10-day stamp card. Memberships just give you the best value if you come often.
Getting started
Do I need to know how to sew?
You don't need to be an expert, but you should know basic sewing to use the studio on your own. New to industrial machines? Start with our First Industrial Stitches class.
Why is orientation required?
Industrial machines are fast and powerful. Orientation ($65) teaches you how to use them safely, how to book equipment, and how the studio works. Everyone must complete it and sign our waiver before using the studio. The fee is credited toward a Standard or Professional membership if you join (see Membership Terms), and it's free for Founding Members.
How do I book a machine or table?
Book ahead by texting (619) 788-1872 or emailing Beatriz@beahivecollective.com. This way your machine is ready when you arrive.
Equipment and supplies
What equipment do you have?
Three industrial single-needle machines, three overlocks, two cover stitch machines, a zig zag, a flatlock, a buttonhole machine, a bartack machine, a kick press, a three-panel industrial cutting table, two single-panel cutting tables, and a commercial pressing table.
What's provided, and what should I bring?
We provide thread, basic tools and pattern paper. Bring your fabric, pattern, any special notions, and your own shears if you have favorites. You can also shop our deadstock fabric, pattern blocks, notions and trims in the studio.
Can I store my projects there?
Yes. Founding and Standard members can add a storage bag ($10/mo) or locker ($20/mo). Storage is included for Professional members. Lockers coming soon.

How do I cancel?

Do day passes and stamp cards expire?
Day passes and stamp cards are for use during regular studio hours. The 5-day card is meant to be used within 3 months and the 10-day card within 6 months.
Do you sell gift cards?
Yes! Gift cards can be used for memberships, passes, classes and the shop, and they never expire.
Classes
What classes do you offer?
Studio Orientation, First Industrial Stitches, kids' sewing classes, and workshops including upcycling. See our Classes & Events page for dates.
How big are classes?
Small! Most workshops have no more than 9 people, and kids' classes have no more than 6.
Do you have classes for kids?
Yes — Sunday kids' sewing classes for ages 8–12, 90 minutes each. $45 per class or $160 for a 4-class pack. Muslin, paper and tools are included. A parent or guardian must register and sign the waiver.
What if I can't make my class?
See the class cancellation rules in our Membership & Purchase Terms. You can always send a friend in your place.
Services
Do you do alterations or custom work?
Yes. BeaHive offers alterations, custom swimwear, pattern drafting and sample making. Email us for a quote.
I'm starting a clothing brand. Can BeaHive help?
Yes! Beyond studio space, Beatriz has years of production and product development experience and offers pattern drafting, sample making and consulting. The studio is also a place to meet other makers and grow your business.
Safety and the space
Is someone always at the studio?
Not always. The studio is open to members and pass holders even when staff aren't on site, which is why orientation and our Safety Policy are required. Security cameras are in use.
Is the studio secure?
Our studio is an open space inside Woo Studios, which has its own building access. Please keep valuables with you or in your storage — BeaHive isn't responsible for lost items.
Can I bring a friend, my kids or my dog?
Members can buy a $45 Guest Pass to bring a friend for a day while they're in the studio. Clients coming only for a fitting don't need one. Kids are welcome during kids' classes, and only service animals are allowed. See our Studio Rules.
Can I bring my own machine?
Yes, you're always welcome to bring your own machine, but for security please take it with you when you check out.
How fast will you reply to my message?
We usually reply within 1–2 business days.
